The Kids Village was founded by a family who know exactly what the pain and worry feels like when you have a child with a life-threatening illness. Gary and Claire’s daughter Sammie, who’s now 25, was diagnosed with cancer aged nine. The future was uncertain and there were years of operations, chemotherapy and radiotherapy and worry…
Our clear aim is to help children with critical illnesses and their families across the UK by giving them crucial respite from the trauma of being in hospitals. We want to give them all hope, positivity and confidence through creating magical holiday experiences that will provide them all with amazing memories away from the day to day stresses of the medical environment.
The Kids Village was founded by The Fletcher family after their own experience with childhood cancer, and is supported by a large supportive network of friends, families and people passionate about making the Kids Village a success.
To be told you have cancer at nine years old is understandably a shock. But at the time I had no idea what impact those difficult years would have on me. But when I look back now, I wouldn’t change a thing. I’m deeply grateful to be able to enjoy what I hope will be a long and fulfilling life. I’m very lucky today to be living with 2003 as a very distant memory, and to be perfectly healthy now.
Kids Village is driven by the passion and experience of those who understand what it’s like to have a child with a critical illness.
