Kids’ Village has today announced that its first village, located in Staffordshire, will be named ‘Charlotte’s Kids’ Village’ in memory of Charlotte, a little girl who sadly died from a brain tumour aged 11.
Charlotte’s family, who have made a significant £2.9m donation to Kids’ Village, wanted to support the charity to help create ‘somewhere that Charlotte would have loved’ and to offer critically ill children and their families a respite break, and chance to create happy memories together.
This donation and the naming of the first site brings together the Fletcher family, Founders of Kids’ Village charity, and Charlotte’s family, each shaped by their own experiences of childhood critical illness and now connected by a shared wish to support others.
As well as the first village being named ‘Charlotte’s Kids’ Village’, the central facility at the first site will now be known as ‘Charlotte’s Den’ and six of the lodges at the first site will be named after members of Charlotte’s family including her siblings and nieces and nephews.
The charity will continue to operate as Kids’ Village, with the Kids’ Village Founders’ long-term vision to have other village locations throughout the UK, all offering free of charge respite holidays to critically ill children and their families.
Katrina Cooke, Chief Executive of Kids’ Village said,
We are very proud to announce the name for our first Kids’ Village site today and to officially launch Charlotte’s Kids’ Village and Charlotte’s Den. Today marks the next stage in the charity’s journey to offer families a much-needed break in a purpose-built, magical village. It is a privilege to watch co-founder Sam Fletcher-Goodwin bring her own personal experience to life in every detail of what a magical week at a Kids’ Village should entail, and at our newly named Charlotte’s Kids’ Village, we will remember Charlotte’s legacy every step of the way.
